Installation Instructions For EPS Single Pan Attic Access Doors
CAUTION: If this product is being installed next to a copper based wood preservative, a barrier
must be installed between the treated lumber and this product to prevent a reaction between the
metal and the preservative.
1. There are three size models of this type door. The “24x24” (#27231) & “24x36”
(#27232) model’s are intended to be used when the truss rafters are installed on 24”
centers. The “24x48” (#27233) may be used on either 24” or 48” centers. It is
advisable to frame out between the rafters for additional strength and rigidity.
2. Read these instructions all the way through before starting to install this unit.
3. There is a 5.5” X 18” sheet of 16g steel inside the panel to act as reinforcement if you
wish to install a handle or latch. This is centered on the long edge of the door, on the
latch side. See the illustration below.
4. Cut an opening in the steel ceiling, between the rafters, which will be either 22 1/2” X 22
7/16, 22 1/2” X 34 7/16” or 22 1/2” X 45 7/16” depending on which model door is being
used.
5. If necessary, install closure strip sealant material at each end of the opening to prevent
possible air infiltration.
6. Insert the door unit into the opening, drill holes through the frame trim flange and into the
rib of the steel and secure with 2 ½” or 3” fasteners.
7. After the door unit is fastened in place, apply a bead of sealant between the metal door
frame and the wood rough opening framing to prevent air infiltration.
