Tips
To find out how to use a pen in Office apps (also called inking), see Use a pen to draw, write, or highlight
text on a Windows tablet on Office.com.
To find out how to get an additional or replacement pen, see Troubleshoot Surface pen on Surface.com.
Pro Pen features
Pen tip. The pressure-sensitive tip registers how hard you press. For example, if you’re using a drawing app,
applying pressure thickens the line that you’re drawing (if the app supports pen pressure).
Pen button. Quick access to right-click menus—press and hold this button, then tap the screen.
Eraser. Works like a pencil eraser. Use the eraser to remove your pen strokes.
Take notes in your own handwriting
Download the free OneNote app from the Windows Store and jot down handwritten notes using the pen.
Convert your handwriting to text
You can use the on-screen keyboard for pen input. Here’s how:
1. Open the on-screen keyboard: Open the Setting
charm, tap or click Keyboard, then tap or click Touch
keyboard and handwriting panel.
2. Tap the Keyboard icon in the lower-right corner, and
choose the image with a pen.
3. Write something and your words are automatically
converted to text.
4. Tap Insert to insert your text.
The handwriting panel adapts to your writing over time, becoming more accurate the more you use it.
