Built-in apps
This section highlights some of the apps included with your Surface.
Note Some features may not be available in all markets.
Office 2013 RT
Surface 2 comes pre-installed with Microsoft Office 2013 RT: Word,
Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Outlook, built especially for
tablets.
Office 2013 RT has almost the same features as Office 2013 on
Windows 7 or Windows 8. To learn about the differences, go to
Office.com/OfficeRT.
Start an Office app
From the Start screen, tap an Office app tile (such as Word).
At the desktop, tap an Office app on the taskbar.
Either way, Office apps run in the desktop.
Get started
If you’re new to Office 2013, download free Office 2013 Quick Start Guides. These printable guides have useful
tips, shortcuts, and screenshots to help you get started.
To find out how to add your email accounts to Outlook, see Outlook RT: Add your email accounts in this guide.
SkyDrive and Office work together
When you sign in with a Microsoft account, your docs are saved on SkyDrive (by default) so that you can access
them from anywhere—your computer, phone, or the web. Saving Office docs on SkyDrive also makes it easy to
share and work with other people (If they don't have Office, they can use free Office Web Apps.) For more info,
see SkyDrive and Office work together on Windows.com.
A few more things
File compatibility. Office 2013 apps can open files created with previous versions of Office. To check
compatibility between Office 2013 and previous versions of Office, see Check file compatibility with
earlier versions on Office.com.
Touch. Check out the Office Touch Guide on Office.com.
