Machine Manager 2008 R2. Figure 5-4 illustrates a consolidation strategy in which many da-
tabases, instances, and physical SQL Server systems are virtualized on a single Hyper-V host.

No matter what consolidation strategy an organization adapts, the benets are signi-
cant without any sacrice of scalability and overall performance. Now that the consolidation
strategies have been explained, it is time to explore how an organization can quickly recog-
nize whether its database environment is a candidate for consolidation and can ultimately
streamline its consolidation efforts by monitoring resource utilization.
