■ Network services af t To use the device you must have service from a wireless service provider. Many of the features require special network features. These features are not available on all networks; other networks may require that you make specific arrangements with your service provider before you can use the network services. Your service provider can give you instructions and explain what charges will apply. Some networks may have limitations that affect how you can use network services.
General information ■ Access codes The security code supplied with the device helps to protect your device against unauthorised use. The preset code is 12345. af t You can change the code, and set the phone to request the code. Keep the code secret and in a safe place separate from your phone. Dr If you forget the code and your phone is locked, your phone will require service and additional charges may apply. For more information, contact a Nokia Care point or your device dealer.

1. Get started ■ Install the UIM card and battery Keep all UIM cards out of the reach of small children. t For availability and information on using UIM card services, contact your UIM card vendor. This may be the service provider or other vendor. Dr af Note: Always switch off the power and disconnect the charger and any other device before removing the cover. Avoid touching electronic components while changing the cover. Always store and use the device with the cover attached. 1.
2. Insert your finger into the finger grip and lift the battery from its compartment. Dr af t 3. Keep the bevelled corner of the UIM card facing up and matching along the corresponding bevelled corner of the card holder. 4. Insert the UIM card into the holder with the gold-coloured contacts facing down, matching up with the gold-coloured contacts on the device.
5. Position the battery so the gold-coloured contacts match up with those on the device, and insert the battery into the battery slot. 6. Push down on the other end of the battery to snap the battery into place. af t 7. Align the back cover with the back of the device. To lock it, press the bottom of the back cover. ■ Charge the battery Dr Warning: Use only batteries, chargers, and enhancements approved by Nokia for use with this particular model.
For availability of approved enhancements, please check with your dealer. When you disconnect the power cord of any enhancement, grasp and pull the plug, not the cord. 1. Plug the charger transformer into a standard wall outlet. t 2. Insert the charger output plug into the socket at the left side of the device. af If the battery is completely discharged, it may take a few minutes before the charging indicator appears on the display or before any calls can be made.
■ Normal operating position Your device has an internal antenna. Hold the device with the antenna pointed up and over your shoulder. Dr af t Note: As with any radio transmitting device, avoid touching the antenna area unnecessarily while the antenna is transmitting or receiving. Contact with such an antenna affects the communication quality and may cause the device to operate at a higher power level than otherwise needed and may reduce the battery life.

The start screen is home base and indicates your device is in the standby mode.
4 — Left selection key (Go to) 5 — Middle selection key (Menu) 6 — Right selection key (Names) In the standby mode, the scroll key functions as follows: Scroll up: list contacts Scroll down: list contacts t Scroll right: view calendar af Scroll left: quickly create a text message To customise you scroll keys, see "My shortcuts," p. 38. Dr ■ Keyguard The keyguard locks the keypad to prevent keys from being pressed accidentally. If the keypad is locked, it unlocks when you receive a call.
When the keyguard is on, calls may be possible to the official emergency number programmed into your device. To unlock the keypad, select Unlock, and press * within 2 seconds. To lock the keypad, select Menu, and press * within 5 seconds. t ■ Data transfer Dr af To use the USB data cable to transfer data and files between your device and a compatible PC, install Nokia PC Suite software on the PC first. Connect your device to the PC with the USB data cable, and start the synchronization from the PC.
3. Call functions ■ Make and answer a call af t To make a call, enter the phone number, including the country code and area code if necessary. To call the number, press the call key. To increase or decrease the volume of the earpiece or headset during the phone call, use the scroll key. Dr To answer an incoming call, press the call key or the middle selection key. To reject the call without answering, press the end key.
4. To end the conference call, select Options > End all calls, or press the end key. ■ Loudspeaker To use your device handsfree during a call, select Loudsp. t Warning: Do not hold the device near your ear when the loudspeaker is in use because the volume may be extremely loud. af To deactivate the loudspeaker during a call, select Normal. Dr The loudspeaker is deactivated automatically when a call (or a call attempt) ends or when certain enhancements are connected.
4. Text entry t You can enter text using traditional text input , and predictive text input . To change the text input method and to switch between upper and lower case, press the # key. To set the writing language, select Options > Writing language. af ■ Traditional text input Dr To use traditional text input, press a number key, 1 to 9, repeatedly until the desired character appears. To add a space, press 0. To add a number, press and hold the desired number key.
To get a list of special characters, when using predictive text input, press and hold *; if there is no active word, press *. Dr af t If the displayed word is the one you want, press 0, and start writing the next word. To change the word, press * repeatedly until the word you want appears. If ? is displayed after the word, the word is not in the dictionary. To add the word to the dictionary, select Spell, enter the word (using traditional text input), and select Save.
5. Menu functions The device functions are grouped into menus. Not all menu functions or option items are described here. af t In the standby mode, select Menu and the desired menu and submenu. To exit the current level of menu, select Exit or Back. To return to the standby mode directly, press the end key. ■ Messaging Dr The message services can only be used when they are supported by your network or service provider.
Delivery reports — A note is sent to you confirming delivery of the message. Select On or Off. Send callback number — The callback number is sent to the recipient. Select On or Off. Signature — Select whether you want to attach a signature to your messages. Select On or Off. af t To change other settings, select Menu > Messaging > Message settings > Other settings and the relevant setting: Save incoming text messages — Set where incoming messages are stored, select Save to UIM then phone if mem.
Queue msgs. when digital unavailable — You can store in the outbox messages that can be sent later when digital service is available. Select On, On prompt, or Off. Create message af t 1. Select Menu > Messaging > Create message, and compose a message using the keypad. To compose a picture message (network service), select Options > Insert picture. Scroll to a picture, and select Use or View > Use. To go quickly to create message, in the standby mode, scroll left. Dr 2.
af t Note: Your device may not indicate whether the message is received at the intended destination. For more details about messaging services, contact your service provider. The picture message function can be used only if it is supported by your network operator or service provider. Only compatible devices that offer picture message features can receive and display picture messages. Voice messages Dr Voice mail is a network service.
Send numeric page You can send a callback number to the recipient as a message so they can call you back directly. Select Menu > Messaging > Send numeric page. Read and reply af t Messages are automatically stored in the inbox after they have been read or if you select Exit when a notification appears in the standby mode. Messages that are unsent, or that failed to be sent, are automatically stored in the outbox folder.
Distribution lists You can create lists of up to ten recipients. These lists can be used to quickly address a text message to a group. t To create a new distribution list, in the standby mode, select Menu > Messaging > Distribution lists > New list (if the list is empty) or Options > Create new list to create additional lists. To populate your list, select Add new and a contact from your contacts list.
To delete all messages in a folder, select Menu > Messaging > Delete messages and one of the following: All — Select Inbox, Sent items, Outbox, Drafts, Saved text msgs., or the user defined folder and Done. To confirm the deletion when promoted, select Yes. t All read — Select Inbox, Sent items, Outbox, Drafts, Saved text msgs., or the user defined folder and Done. To confirm the deletion when prompted, select Yes. af All unread — Select Inbox, Saved text msgs., or the user defined folder and Done.
The UIM card memory can save names with one phone number attached to them. The contacts saved in the UIM card memory are indicated by . To add a new contact, select Menu > Contacts > Names > Add (if the contact list is empty) or Options > Add new contact, and enter the name and the phone number. Names and numbers are saved in the used memory.
Contacts view — to select how names and numbers are viewed in the contacts list Name display — to select whether the contact’s first or last name is displayed first Font size — to set the font size af Groups t Memory status — to view the amount of space available in the phone or UIM card Dr To arrange the names and phone numbers saved in the memory into caller groups with different ringing tones and group images, select Menu > Contacts > Groups.
Move or copy contacts To move or copy a contact between the UIM card memory and the phone memory, select Menu > Contacts > Names. Select the contact to move or copy and Options > Move contact or Copy contact. t To move or copy several contacts, select the contacts and Options > Mark. When you have marked the selected contacts, select Options > Move marked or Copy marked.
Business card You can send and receive a person’s contact information from a compatible device that supports the vCard standard as a business card. To send a business card, search for the contact, and select Details >Options > Send bus. card. af t When you receive a business card, to save the business card in the phone memory, select Show >Save. To discard the business card, select Exit > Yes. ■ Log Dr Log stores information about the last 50 missed, received, or dialed calls (network service).

To view the contacts to whom you most recently sent messages, select Menu > Log > Message recipients. To delete the missed, dialled, or received calls from the phone memory, select Menu > Log > Clear log lists and the item you would like to clear. af t To view the approximate duration of the last call, all received calls, all dialled calls, or all calls, select Menu > Log > Call duration.
Profiles Profiles define, for example, how your device reacts when you receive a call or message, or how your keypad sounds when you press a key. Ringing options, keypad tones, and other settings for each of the available profiles can be personalised to suit your needs. af t To activate or personalise a profile, or set a timed expiration for a profile, select Menu > Settings > Profiles, a profile and Activate, Personalise or Timed.
Sleep mode — to select whether the display is switched off to save battery power during inactivity Colour schemes — to personalise the colours on the device display Tones settings t Backlight time-out — to control the backlight time-out of your device display af To set the tone of the device, select Menu > Settings > Tones and from the available options.
When the automatic-update of the date and time is activated, network time will replace the time and date of your device. This feature supports alarm clock, calendar, and time stamping of the call lists. My shortcuts t Shortcuts give you quick access to frequently use phone functions. af To allocate functions to the shortcut keys, select Menu > Settings > My shortcuts, the relevant function and Left selection key, Right selection key, or Navigation key.
Calling card — to save up to four calling cards in your device to use for long distance calls Abbreviated dialling — to save a 5 or 6-digit dialling prefix that will allow you to dial a 10-digit number by entering the last 4 or 5 digits af t International prefix — to make international calls using the + sign as the international prefix. The device replaces the international access code with the + sign in a saved phone number when creating a call.

Search all stations — to search for new radio stations Set frequency — to enter the frequency of the desired radio station Settings — to set the radio using loudspeaker or headset, and the radio in monophonic sound or in stereo af t You can normally make a call or answer an incoming call while listening to the radio. During the call, the volume of the radio is muted. Recorder Dr This feature allows you to record speech or sound with your device.
■ Organiser Your device contains features to help organise your everyday life, including an alarm clock, calendar, calculator, timer, world clock, and stopwatch. Alarm clock af t The alarm clock works with the device clock. Select Menu > Organiser > Alarm clock > Alarm time. Enter the time in hh:mm format, and select OK. is displayed in the standby mode. Dr To set the device to alert you on selected days of the week, select Repeat alarm > Repetition days.
To stop the alarm, select Stop. If you select Snooze, the alarm stops for the selected snooze time-out and then resumes. Calendar To open the calendar, scroll right or select Menu > Organiser > Calendar. af t To view a specific date from the calendar view, select Options > Go to date, enter the date, and press OK. Dr To add a note to a specific date from the month view (with the go to date highlighted), select the date and Options > Make a note > Meeting, Call, Birthday, Memo, or Reminder.
Select Settings to view more options. Calculator The calculator in your device adds, subtracts, multiplies, divides, calculates the square and the square root, and converts currency values. t Note: This calculator has a limited accuracy and is designed for simple calculations. Dr af Select Menu > Organiser > Calculator. Enter the first number in the calculation. Select # for a decimal point if necessary. Select Options > Add, Subtract, Multiply, Divide, Square, Square root, or Change sign.
