Inviting several IM users to a group chat
The Invitation list is a master list of IM users to invite to a group chat. No one is invited to join a group chat until the
invitations are sent.
To invite a friend to a group chat, press Invite friend from the active group chat view. An Invitations list is displayed of IM
users who have been invited to participate. in The list may identify users by IM user ID or personal screen name. Press Invite
contact to select users from your contact list, or press Invite other to add another user to the list. When the list of invitations
is complete, press Send.
Inviting your contacts to a group chat
You can invite someone on your contact list to participate in a group chat.
To select IM users from your contact list to invite to a group chat, press Invite friend from an active group chat, view the
Invitations list and press Invite contact, scroll to an IM user in the Invite online contact list, and press Mark. When the list of IM
users to invite from your contact list is complete, press Done to return to the master invitation list.
Inviting non-contacts to a group chat
You may want to invite IM users who are not on your contact list to participate in a group chat.
To select an IM user to invite to a group chat, if the IM user is not on your contact list, press Invite friend from an active group
chat, view the Invitations list and press Invite other, type a user ID, and press Add. When the list of IM users is complete, press
Done to return to the master invitation list.
Managing a group membership list
To select an IM user to invite to a group chat, if the IM user is not on your contact list, press Invite friend from an active group
chat, view the Invitations list and press Invite other, type a user ID, and press Add. When the list of IM users is complete, press
Done to return to the master invitation list.
Banning IM group members
To ban a group member in IM, press Menu in the group chat view, select View → Banned users, and select Ban member. Type
the IM user ID of the group member to ban, and press OK. A banned user cannot join the group.
Removing a user from the banned list - To remove an IM user from the banned list, press Menu in the group chat view,
select View → Banned users, scroll to a banned user, select Remove, and press OK. The user may now join the group.
Viewing a list of banned users - To view a list of users banned from an IM group, press Menu in the group chat view, and
select View → Banned users.
Banning non-group members
To ban a non-group member in IM, press Menu in the group chat view, select View → Banned users, and select Ban other.
Type the IM user ID of the non-group member to ban, and press OK.
Defining sound preferences for a group chat
To set your sounds for group chats, press Menu, and select View → Groups, then press Menu, and select Tools → Preferences
→ Sound. By default, the IM application plays a tone for an alert or a message received. You can select a tone or set a sound
to silent.
Select:
• IM sounds—to turn all sounds On or Off.
• New message tone—to select a MIDI tone from a list. The tone plays when a new message is received.
• Alert tone—to select a MIDI tone from a list. The tone plays when an alert that you set is triggered.
• New group message tone—to select a MIDI tone from a list. The tone plays when you receive a new message from a
group member during an active group chat.
Defining your screen name for a group chat
To identify yourself for an IM group chat, press Menu, and select View → Groups, then press Menu, and select Tools →
Preferences → Screen name. By default, your user name appears to others in an IM group chat.
