Viewing online contacts only
To view a list of your IM contacts that are currently online, expand the Online contacts folder on the left side of the main
view. Scroll through the list to see the availability status, Available or Away for each contact.
Viewing offline contacts only
Viewing offline IM contacts only - To view a list of your IM contacts that are not currently signed on to the IM service,
expand the Offline contacts folder on the left side of the main view. Scroll through the list to see the availability status, offline
or blocked, for each contact.
Viewing all contacts
To view a list of your IM contacts whether they are online or offline, press Menu, and select View → All contacts.
Adding an IM contact
Adding a user to your IM contact list - To add a user to your IM contact list, press Add contact in the main view. Type a
nickname and user ID, and press Add. The contact is saved in device memory and in the master list on the server. The user ID
is required, but the nickname is optional. An IM service provider may require the user ID to be in the format
username@domain.com. The user ID can be a maximum of 50 characters.
Select:
• Nickname—the short name that you assign to someone on your IM contact list. Nicknames exist only on your mobile
device.
• User ID—the username used to log in. The person received the user ID from the service provider when they registered for
an IM service. The User ID may be in the format username@domain.com.
Defining IM sound settings
To set sounds, press Menu, select Tools → Preferences, and select the Sound page. By default, the IM application plays a tone
for an alert or a message received. You can select a tone or set a sound to silent.
Select:
• IM sounds—to turn all IM sounds On or Off.
• New message tone—to select a MIDI tone from a list. The tone plays when a new message is received.
• Alert tone—to select a MIDI tone from a list. The tone plays when an alert that you set is triggered.
• New group message tone—to select a MIDI tone from a list. The tone plays when you receive a new message from a
group member during an active group chat.
Defining IM login settings
To log in to a server automatically, press Menu, select Tools → Preferences, select the Login page, and change Login type to
Automatic. The next time IM is launched, you will log in automatically to the server that you specify, with the user name and
password that you defined for IM server settings.
Select:
• Log in to—to select a login method from a list. IM will use this login method the next time you start IM.
• Log in type— to select a login method from a list. IM will use this login method the next time you start IM. The default
log in type is Manual.
