Position the Wireless Pointing Device and Receiver
For optimum performance, position the receiver so that it is at least 8 inches
(20 cm) away from the pointing device and items that might cause interference,
such as computer monitors, large metal objects (including computer cases and
metal furniture), desktop fans, or fluorescent lights. The pointing device may
work up to 6 feet (1.8 m) away from the receiver, but this distance varies de-
pending on positioning, nearby items causing interference, and other factors.
Connect the Receiver to the Computer
The connection procedure depends on the type of computer you are using and
the connectivity supported for your pointing device as specified on the package.
If your pointing device is PS/2-compatible, a PS/2 connection is recommended
for a Windows-based computer.
Only use an adaptor plug if it is included with your Microsoft pointing device.
PS/2 Connection (Windows)
1 Shut down and turn off your computer.
2 If your pointing device cable has a round PS/2 connector, plug it into your
computer’s round PS/2 mouse port.
If your pointing device has a USB-to-PS/2 adaptor, attach it to the Universal
Serial Bus (USB) connector, and then plug it into your computer’s round
PS/2 mouse port.
3 Turn on your computer.
