The USB adapter plugs into a computer’s USB port. USB ports are rectangular and
about a half-inch wide. They can be located on either the back or front of the
computer.
The USB adapter has no internal power source, so it must connect to a high-powered
(500 mA) USB port. In general, the ports on your computer itself are high-powered,
whereas many USB ports on keyboards, monitors, or USB hubs are not high-powered.
The adapter has two status lights. The behavior of these lights is explained in a later
section.
The Wireless Notebook Adapter
The Microsoft Wireless Notebook Adapter fits into a PCMCIA slot on a laptop or other
computer. The adapter contains two status lights and two internal antennas.
