Indexing Scale
Although there are no hard-coded limits for the number of items that can be indexed by
any of the products listed, there are some practical guidelines based on feasibility and
performance:
Search Server 2010 Express and SharePoint Foundation 2010 can index and
search up to 300,000 items if they are used with SQL Server
®
Express; otherwise
they can index and search up to 10 million items if they are used with a full
edition of SQL Server 2008.
A scaled-out Search Server 2010 farm can index and search up to 100 million
items.
A scaled-out SharePoint Server 2010 farm can index and search up to 100 million
items.
A FAST Search Server 2010 for SharePoint installation can support extreme scale,
and can index and search over a billion items.
