Use your voice to write a message
Too busy to write a message? Write and send a text message with your voice.
This feature is not available in all languages. For information on the supported languages, go
to support.microsoft.com, and browse to the instructions for Windows phones.
You may also need to download a language package before you can use the feature. If asked
to install a language package, swipe down from the top of the screen, tap All settings >
Time & language > Speech > Add a language, select the language you want, and wait
for the download to finish.
To use this feature, you must be connected to the internet.
1. Tap Messaging > .
2. To add recipients, tap the To: box and , and say the recipient’s name. You can also dictate
a phone number.
Tip: To add a recipient, you can also type in a name or number in the To: box, or tap
, and select one from your contacts list.
3. Tap the message box and , and say your message.
4. To send the message, tap .
Use Cortana to write a message
To write a message with your voice using Cortana, tap and hold the search key , say Text
and the contact's name, say your message, and follow the instructions you hear.
Cortana is not available in all languages. For information on the supported languages, go to
support.microsoft.com, and browse to the instructions for Windows phones.
Troubleshoot messaging issues
If you can’t send a multimedia message (MMS)
Restart your phone with the SIM card inserted, and retry sending a multimedia message
(your phone loads the settings from the SIM card).
Send a multimedia message to your own phone number. This way, you can test if you’re
able to send and receive multimedia messages.
If you can connect to the internet but you can’t send multimedia messages, try searching
online to find the multimedia (MMS) settings for your network service provider.
Check that data roaming is turned on in your phone settings.
Tip: You must be connected to the internet to send and receive multimedia messages.
Confirm with your network service provider that you have an active cellular data
subscription (access to internet) on your SIM card.
