If a recorder has no phantom powering or a micro-
phone input is unbalanced as in many portable recorders
and wireless microphone transmitters, a phantom-
powered microphone can be awkward to use. For these
and other situations SCHOEPS offers the CMBI, a bat-
tery-powered microphone amplifier with unbalanced
output.
Com bi ne this with one of 19 mi cro phone cap su les
of the Colette series and you ob tain a mi cro pho ne
which is acoustical ly equivalent to the bal an ced ver sion
u sing a CMC micro pho ne am pli fier.
The CMBI is powered by a re a di ly avai la ble internal
6 V silver oxi de bat tery which, com bi ned with po wer-
sa ving cir cu i try, gi ves up to 80 hours of ope ra tio n.
Ab out 6 hours be fo re the end of bat tery li fe, a bu ilt-in
LED begins to light up as a war ning.
In addition to battery operation, the CMBI allows for
external powering through the output cable. (The
included K 5 ISK cable is not suitable for this mode of
operation.)
Because of this model's unbalanced, low-level output
and its medium output impedance, the total cable
length should be kept to less than about 15 m to avoid
possible RF interference and impaired performance.
