ICOM IC-2725
General
It's not only shortwave transceivers which could be remote controlled, the Remoterig system
also support ICOM:s IC-2725. The technical solution is the same as for IC-706 and TS-480;
you can remote control the radio over Internet from the control panel without any PC. We
simply replace the cable between the control panel and the radio with two RRC-1258 units,
one at the control panel and one at the radio. When you push the PWR-ON button an audio
and data connection is established between the units and you control the radio as you do
normally with the control panel directly attached to the radio. There are no limitations in
functionality, everything works and you can use the original microphone.
Hardware configuration
Unfortunately ICOM have inverted the serial bus in the IC-2725 so there need hardware
adaption to make it work. This is quite simple so it can be done by yourself. The adapters can
also be bought from Remoterig webshop. The adapters are connected to the strapping socket
where the red jumpers are normally connected. The transistors used on the PCB have built in
resistors, so if you use standard transistor like BC-547 and BC-557 you have to put the
resistors outside. Check the data sheets for PDTC-143ET and PDTA-144ET.
