Testing Installation

NOTE

Refer to the FreeWave Radio Users manuals for proper radio operation and setup.

Once the unit is installed it is recommended that the unit be tested using a simple communi-

cations program such as Hyper Terminal under windows.

Open the communications program and select the proper COM port. Set the communications

parameters to 19,200 Baud, 8 Bits, No Parity, 1 Stop Bits (19200,N,8,1) and press the setup but-

ton. The FreeWave Setup Menu should come up on the screen.

1PPS Input

The optional 1PPS input is used to externally drive the FreeWave DTR pin with a TTL Level

GPS 1PPS Pulse. This is used for Masterless TDMA Mode and Push To Talk Mode (PTT). For

normal operation place the jumper JP4 on the INT position. This will route the DTR from the

UART to the radio modem.

For Masterless TDMA move jumper JP4 to the EXT position. Also you must conﬁgure the mo-

dem for Masterless mode. Please review the FreeWave TDMA User Manual for operation.

Caution

The 1PPS input is TTL tolerant. Application of RS-232 level signals or signals exceeding the

range of 0 to 5VDC will damage the radio.
