3. Short instruction for commissioning the scanner program
FNOTE: The following description exclusively refers to the scanner Metrologic IS6520. The procedure
or the corresponding parameters required for other devices may differ.
3.1. Instructions for usage without terminal
1. Connect the scanner to the PLC by connecting the adapter between COM2 of the PLC and the serial
connection of the scanner cable.
2. Supply the scanner with voltage (connect the cable of the power supply unit to the scanner cable and the
power supply unit to 230 V AC; refer to Metrologic manual "Installation and User’s Guide").
3. Set the scanner parameters:
For this purpose, refer to the programming manual of the scanner. The following codes have to be held
in front of the scanning window one after the other. A beep tone indicates that the scanner has
successfully read the bar code.

• ENTER/EXIT PROGRAM MODE The scanner is switched to programming mode.
During programming mode the LEDs
are alternately flashing red and green.
• RECALL DEFAULTS The scanner is set to its default values.

• ENTER/EXIT PROGRAM MODE The scanner is switched back to scanning mode.
During scanning mode the green LED is on.
4. Connect the PLC to 24 V DC, copy the demo program, store it in the flash memory and then start it.
The green LED on the scanner indicates that it is ready for scanning. You can now hold any available bar code
of your choice in front of the scanning window (CDs, floppy disks, bottles, Tetra Packs, etc). Every time the
scanner has successfully read the bar code a beep tone sounds.
