Appendix L—Network Diagnostics
Diagnostic Configurations
If you are having problems communicating with ScanVue5
®
units, we highly recommend
that you download a progam called WireShark
®
and its technical documentation from
the www.wildpackets.com web site. The prior version is called EtherHelp
®
. This is the
resident part of a remote network diagnostic tool IEE owns and uses for troubleshooting
network problems. There is no charge for this tool. Three useful network configurations
for troubleshooting are shown below.

The hub must be a “dumb” or passive hub i.e., one that does not do any routing. If a
switch or intelligent hub is used, EtherHelp
®
will not be able to capture all of the packets
from the ScanVue. When in doubt, the crossover cable is the best solution.
