Two-channel digital Oscilloscopes 53
Functional description
VI - MEASUREMENT system
The oscilloscope displays waveforms, in other words variations of the signal
amplitude (voltage) as a function of time.
The oscilloscope also displays the vertical and horizontal ranges and the
results of cursor and automatic measurements.
This method allows a rapid visual estimate. For example, you can observe
the amplitude of the signal and determine approximately that it is slightly
greater than 100mV. You can estimate the amplitude by simple
measurements, by counting the major and minor divisions of the graticule
and multiplying by the range. For example, if you count five major divisions
between the minimum and maximum values of a signal, and if the vertical
range is 100mV/div., then it is easy to calculate its peak-to-peak amplitude:
5 div. x 100mV/div. = 500mV.
Three modes: Manual, Track (cursors attached to the trace), and Auto
Press the "CURSORS" key.

Description
Mode
Manual
This mode is used to configure the
measurement by cursors manually.
Type

Use the cursor to measure the amplitude ∆V of
the voltage signal.
Use the cursor to measure the period or
frequency of the signal, ∆T and 1/∆T.

Choose the reference channel for the
measurements.
Cur A
Select CurA and turn the "Adjust" knob to adjust
it.
Cur B
Select CurB and turn the "Adjust" knob to adjust
it.
When this mode is active, the screen displays two parallel horizontal or
vertical cursors to measure the voltage or the time. The "Adjust" knob is used
to move the cursors. Make sure that you have selected the right reference for
the measurements.
Voltage cursor: The voltage cursors take the form of horizontal lines on
the screen. The position of a cursor is in Volts
Time cursor: The time cursors take the form of vertical lines on the
screen. The position of a cursor is in seconds.
Moving a cursor: Use the "adjust" knob to move cursors A and B. To be
able to move a cursor, you must first select it. When a cursor is moved, the
value corresponding to the vertical and(or) horizontal position of the cursor is
displayed to the left of the screen.
