44 Two-channel digital Oscilloscopes
Functional description
IV - ACQUISITION system (cont'd)
The oscilloscope samples the signal at regular intervals to construct the
trace. In general, this mode gives an accurate representation of the signal.
You can use this mode to reduce random noise.
The "sample" mode does not capture the rapid variations of the signal
(glitches) that may occur between two successive samples. Aliasing may
result, and short pulses may not be detected. In the presence of a pulse
having a low width (glitch), you must use the "Peak detection" mode.
The Peak Detection mode captures the minimum and maximum values of a
signal between two successive samples.
With this mode, the oscilloscope can capture short pulses (or glitches) that
might have escaped detection in the "sample" mode.
The trace thickness (noise) will be larger in this mode.
