5-11
Select the individual devices or groups of devices you wish to reprogram and then select
OK. In Figure 5-7 only one device has been selected. Reprogramming a device over
the air does not
change its ID number, no matter what ID number has been specified in
MP32. For example, if you’ve specified an RUID of 123456 in MP32, and send that
configuration to unit 000005, the unit’s ID number will remain at 000005.
NOTE
The configuration will be changed the next time the DCM-200 communicates with DC-
2000. For instance, if the unit is not scheduled to call in for 24 hours, it will take that long
to update the configuration.
NOTE
When the configuration is changed the DCM-200 will be reset. See Chapter-7 for a
description of the unit’s behavior after a reset.
CAUTION !
It is extremely important
that the configuration parameters be correct, particularly
the call-in phone number, Internet address, APN, etc. If an incorrect parameter is
specified, the DCM-200 will not be able to contact the host system again. This will
require an on-site visit to correct the problem.
As a final note, you will notice in Figure 5-7 that the devices have phone numbers
associated with them. These are the numbers that can be used to “page” the DCM-
200’s. This information comes from the database for each device. Earlier in Chapter-4
we discussed the ability of the DCM-200 to read the unit’s phone number from the SIM
card and report it to DC-2000. DC-2000 then automatically inserts this phone number
into the database. If the SIM card does not contain a phone number, it will have to be
entered manually. Review Chapter-4 and check with your cellular service provider about
programming the phone number into the SIM card. It could save you a lot of work.
