5 DEVICE CONFIGURATION USING MP32
5.1 Configuration Concept
Configuration of a DCM-200 is accomplished using the Metretek Programmer software
“MP32”. MP32 is designed to operate under the Windows 95 or later operating system
on any 80x86 or Pentium-based personal computer.
The DCM-200’s operating program (“firmware”) and its configuration information are
stored within the FLASH memory of the processor on the GUTC board. Certain
parameters are unique to each DCM-200, such as the unit’s I.D. number, phone number
or Internet address to call, cellular radio frequency, etc. Changing the firmware allows
new features to be added, existing features to be changed or problems to be corrected
without the need to replace components.
The DCM-200 can be reprogrammed locally using the Programming Adapter, illustrated
previously in Figure 2-1. Your computer must have a serial port available for this
operation. Once configured and installed in the field, the DCM-200 can be reconfigured
over the cellular network. The data collection software, DC-2000, must be installed and
running to support over-the-air programming.
5.2 Programming Adapter
Equipment requirements for programming the DCM-200 with the programming adapter
are as follows:
• Windows-based Metretek Programmer software, “MP32”, available under
Metretek P/N: 100160. The “MP32” software must be version 3.4.8 or greater.
• 80x86 or Pentium-based personal computer with an available 9-pin RS-232 serial
port (COM1 or COM2). Windows 95 or later operating system is required.
• Programming Adapter, Metretek part number: 1002-0299C-001. This is shown
back in Figure 2-1
The larger end with the 9-pin connector attaches to the RS-232 COM port on the
computer, and the opposite end with the 6-pin white connector attaches to J5 of the
GUTC board. See Figure 3-5 for the location of this connector
.
