A SIM card allows the cellular account to be moved from one phone to another. Theft is
an issue because a person could remove the SIM card from the DCM-200, install it into
his or her own cellular phone and have unlimited calling access to anywhere in the
world. The cellular service provider can assign a 1 to 8-digit Personal Identification
Number (PIN) to the SIM card to prevent this from happening. The DCM-200 can be
programmed with the same PIN number. See Chapter-5 about this.
Motorola g18 cellular modules have a plastic holder incorporated on the radio that is
ready to accept a SIM card. Care must be exercised to ensure that the electrical
contacts of the SIM card will mate properly with the electrical contacts on the radio
module. Figure 4-2 illustrates the method for sliding the SIM card into the holder. Proper
orientation requires that the notched corner of the card be located as shown.

SIM Card Installation for the g18 Radio
Because of the radio’s close proximity to the left wall of the enclosure It is not possible to
install the SIM card in the g18 radio without removing the GUTC board assembly. Do
not remove the radio from the GUTC board. Rather, remove the four screws that hold
down the GUTC board (see Figure 4-3). The GUTC board can then be lifted away
enough to gain access to the SIM card slot.
