When the software boots up from a reset state,
it will test the two RS-232 ports to determine
which one is currently active, assuming the
switch may have been manually controlled while
it was off. From then on, it monitors the two
Masters assuming the primary Master (1) is
connected to the DTA port, and the Secondary
Master (2) is connected to the ALT port.
