Installing the System BIOS and Drivers
This section explains how to install the system BIOS for the Compaq W8000
and IBM 6866 systems and the drivers needed for each system
Installing the System
BIOS for the Compaq
W8000 System
Your system must have a minimum revision system BIOS of 1.17.
To determine the revision of the system BIOS
1. On the Windows desktop, right-click the My Computer icon and
choose Manage.
The Computer Management window is displayed.
2. Use the tree in the left view to navigate to the System Information >
System Summary folder.
3. Check the BIOS version.
• If it is 686P6 v1.17, go to Installing the Avid Drivers on page 68.
• If it is earlier than 686P6 v1.17, continue to the next step.
4. Put the Avid|DS version 6.x Drivers CD into the CD-ROM drive.
The Main Menu is displayed.
5. Click Browse CD.
6. Browse to win2000/compaq/System/bios.
7. Put a blank, formatted diskette in the floppy drive.
8. Double-click on Compaqbios1-17.exe file and follow the instructions to
create a diskette that contains the 1.17 system BIOS.
9. Leave the diskette in the floppy drive and restart the workstation.
