Features and Controls
Choke knob ‑ Pull completely out when starting a cold engine. Push halfway in
as the engine is warming up. Push in completely after the engine is warmed up.
Oil pressure indicator ‑ If the oil pressure drops too low, the oil pressure
indicator light will turn on. If the oil pressure indicator light turns on while the
engine is running, stop the engine as soon as possible. Check the oil level and
add oil as needed. If the oil pressure indicator light stays on when the oil level
is correct, consult an authorized Mercury dealer.
Engine stop switch/lanyard stop switch ‑ Push in or pull the lanyard to stop the
engine. The engine will not start unless the lanyard is engaged with the stop
switch.

Throttle grip friction knob ‑ Turn the friction knob to set and maintain the throttle
at a desired speed. Turn the knob clockwise to increase friction or turn the knob
counterclockwise to decrease friction.

WARNING
Insufficient friction adjustment can cause serious injury or death due to loss
of
boat control. When setting the friction adjustment, maintain sufficient
steering friction to prevent the outboard from steering into a full turn if the
tiller handle or steering wheel is released.
