INSTRUCTIONS FOR HORIZONTAL VENTING AGAINST EXTERIOR WALL
Mendota recommends the use of Duravent 5”x8” coaxial pipes and fittings. Duravent components provide the
most flexibility since Duravent horizontal termination caps slide fully over the 6” or 9” straight pipe section
used. Using Amerivent pipes and components are limiting and will increase the minimum framing depth.
A 9” maximum horizontal pipe section is permitted when venting horizontally using the rear vent option
against an exterior flat wall. NOTE: We recommend always using the shortest run the installation will al-
low. This maximizes efficiency and flame appearance. This is especially true for LP gas installations and for
installations at higher altitudes. Use "fixed" pipe sections in place of adjustable pipe sections wherever possi-
ble. You must use Milpack silicate 1000
o
F stove sealant (#65-06-00909) on all inner pipe joints when using
pipes and components that do not incorporate a fiberglass or graphite gasket at the joints. High temperature foil
tape must be used on the outer (air intake) pipe joints. The Milpak silicate 1000
o
F sealant (#65-06-00909) can
be ordered through Mendota directly. The silicate 1000F sealant can be ordered through Mendota direct-
ly. Always maintain 1" clearances from vent pipe to combustibles, 2" above
pipe on horizontal runs. Do
not fill air spaces with insulation or other material.
For High Altitude (above 4,000 ft.), the gas input must be reduced at a rate of 4% for every1000 feet above sea
level.
The DXV-35 Fireplace must be installed by a qualified service person.
