With these easy to follow instructions, you can create a

stylish, contemporary coffee table and an end table from a

single sheet of hardwood veneer plywood! It’s a simple,

versatile project and you can say you made it yourself!

We used birch veneer plywood in this project, but you can

also use oak, maple, or any other wood species of your

choice.

With these easy to follow instructions, you can create a stylish, contemporary coffee table and an end table from a single sheet of hardwood veneer plywood! It’s a simple, versatile project and you can say you made it yourself! We used birch veneer plywood in this project, but you can also use oak, maple, or any other wood species of your choice.

STEP 1: Cut Coffee Table Top & Bottom From your 4’ x 8’ sheet of plywood, measure and cut two 48” x 23-3/4” sections; these will be the top and bottom of the coffee table. STEP 2: Cut end table top and bottom Measure and cut two 23-3/4” x 23-3/4” pieces; these will form the top and bottom of the end table. STEP 3: Cut remaining Pieces From your remaining piece of plywood, measure and cut five 23-3/4” x 6-1/2” sections; these will form the sides and a center divider.

STEP 6: attach sides Next, place the coffee table top on a workbench with the bottom side facing up. Deposit a bead of wood glue along the edge and clamp one of the side pieces to it so that the pocket holes are next to the table top. Screw the sides to the top (as seen here) using pocket screws. Do this for both ends of the coffee table top. STEP 7: Attach back piece Now glue and screw the back piece to one side and to the table top as seen here.

STEP 11: Assemble end table Assembly of the end table is the same as for the coffee table, except there is no divider or back piece. STEP 12: Apply edge banding (optional) If desired, apply edge banding to the front and back of the table. The banding is simply glued on with a hot iron and then trimmed to match width. STEP 13: Final Sanding Before applying any finish, sand the entire table and use a clean cloth or tack cloth to remove any dust.
