Using the 1 x 4 x 12' select pine, measure and cut three

boards to 43-1/2" in length using the miter saw. Remember

to always wear eye protection, such as safety goggles, when

using a saw.

STEP 1: Cut 43-1/2" Boards

STEP 2: Cut 32" Boards Out of the same pine, cut four boards to 32" in length using the miter saw. STEP 3: Cut 11-1/4" Boards Measure and cut eight pieces of pine to 11-1/4" in length using the miter saw. STEP 4: Cut 10" Boards Finally, measure and cut two pieces of pine to 10" in length using the miter saw. STEP 5: Lay Out First Frame Take one 43-1/2" board and two 32" boards. Connect the 32" boards to the edges of the 43-1/2" board so that the ends are flush.

STEP 7: Assemble Frame Using the pilot holes made in the previous step, screw the 32" boards onto the 43-1/2" board with a #6 drill bit and 2-1/4" screws. STEP 8: Complete First Frame Layout Take another 43-1/2" board and place it on the other end of the frame from the previous step, making sure that the 32" board ends are flush with the ends of the second 43-1/2" board. Make sure the 32" boards are on the inside, flush to the outside edge of the 43-1/2" board.

STEP 12: Lay Out 10" Boards Take the two 10" boards and place them on the 32" board ends of the second frame so that the ends are flush. STEP 13: Drill Pilot Holes Drill two pilot holes through both 10" boards. The pilot holes should be 1-1/2" vertically apart from each other where the boards meet with the 32" board ends. STEP 14: Attach 10" Boards Using the pilot holes made in the previous step, screw on the two 10" boards with 2-1/4" screws.

STEP 17: Clamp & Screw Clamp and screw in the eight 11-1/4" boards around the frame using 1-1/4" screws. STEP 18: Clamp Second Frame Take the second frame (the rectangle with the gap on one side) and insert it within the 11-1/4" boards. Make sure it is 2" apart all the way around so the guide lines match up correctly with the 11-1/4" boards. Then, securely clamp down the second frame for drilling.

STEP 22: Cut Plywood On the 1/4 x 4 x 4 ACX Handi-Panel plywood, measure and mark 43-1/2" and 33-1/2", corresponding with the measurements taken in the previous step. Use a level to help make your marks and cuts straight. Cut using a circular saw. STEP 23: Place Plywood Flip the entire frame assembly over and place the plywood flush on the bottom of the frame. STEP 24: Drill Pilot Holes With the 1/8" drill bit, drill pilot holes evenly spaced along outer edge of plywood and into the outside frame.

STEP 27: Apply Gel Stain Apply the gel wood stain of your choice and wipe off excess stain with a cloth cleaning rag. STEP 28: Apply Polyurethane Apply two to three coats of clear satin polyurethane. When completely dry, place the dog bed in the frame. Note: If you followed these instructions exactly, your new dog bed frame will fit a 30" x 40" dog bed.
