PRECAUTIONS NOTES ON HANDLING: TO OBTAIN A CLEAR PICTURE: • When shipping the DVD recorder, always use the original shipping carton and packing materials. For maximum protection, repack the unit as it was originally packed at the factory. • Do not use volatile liquids, such as insect spray, near the DVD recorder. SETUP MENU The setup menu lets you customize the DVD recorder by allowing you to select various preferences. Below, find the menu, and then find the corresponding page that describes the features of the selected menu option. 1. While in the Stop mode, press the SETUP button ❶ to enter the Setup Menu. 2. SETUP MENU (CONTINUED) SETTING THE RATING LEVEL The Rating Level enables parents to prevent their children from watching inappropriate material on a DVD. It reads the ratings for programming, then denies access to programming if the program’s rating meets the limitations you select. TV OPERATION 1 2 Press the ON/STANDBY button to turn on the unit; the STANDBY indicator will go out. Press the SOURCE button to select TV, “CH” and a channel number will appear on the TV 3 4 2 4 2 1 1 3 For proper operation, before selecting channels, they must be set into the TV’s program memory, see page 23. Press and release the CHANNEL Up 1 or Down 2 button. The TV automatically stops at the next channel set into memory. This will not operate if channels are not set into memory.
DVD BASIC OPERATION IMPORTANT: When “INVALID” appears while pressing a button, this means that the corresponding function cannot be performed either on the disc inserted, or in the selected mode. DISPLAY BUTTON (DVD MODE): While playing a DVD, press the DISPLAY button to view the control options. Press the Navigation (Ã,¨) buttons to select the desired icon, then press the ENTER button to select it.
DVD BASIC OPERATION (CONTINUED) IMPORTANT NOTES: • “INVALID” will appear on the TV screen during operation if you try to access a function that is not available on the disc. • Some discs may take a few seconds to load. • If a disc is inserted incorrectly, dirty, damaged, or is not present at all, “NO DISC” will appear in the display. • Always hold the disc without touching either of its surfaces.

Press the OPEN/CLOSE button to open the disc tray, “OPEN” will appear in the display. After loading, the index screen of the DVD should appear.

Press the Skip (o) button 2 to move the DVD to the beginning of the previous chapters. During playback, press either the Search ¨¨ 1 button or SearchÃà 2 button to move the DVD forward or backward at double (x2) speed to locate a specific section.
DVD BASIC OPERATION (CONTINUED) TITLE SEARCH CHAPTER SEARCH Use this feature to directly go to a specific title. Use the Number buttons 2 to select the desired title number, then press the ENTER button 3; playback will start immediately.
DVD BASIC OPERATION (CONTINUED) REPEAT PLAYBACK A-B REPEAT PLAYBACK While playing back a DVD, this unit can repeatedly play back a chapter, title or the entire DVD repeatedly. Select the Playback mode option using the Navigation (Ã,¨) buttons 2, then press the ENTER button 3.

While in the Play mode, press the AUDIO button and the audio setting will appear at the top of the screen. The first number is the current audio setting and the second number is the total audio settings. Repeatedly press the AUDIO button to select the desired audio setting. This is not available on all discs.

You may program 99 different chapters or you may also program certain chapters to play more than once. MP3 BASIC OPERATION PLAYBACK OF AN MP3 CD 1 2 Press the ON/STANDBY button to turn on the unit; the STANDBY indicator will go out. Press the OPEN/CLOSE button to open the disc tray, “OPEN” will appear on the screen and in the display. Press the OPEN/CLOSE button again to close the disc tray. “LOAD” will appear on the TV screen. After loading, playback will start automatically.
RECORDING IMPORTANT: When “INVALID” appears while pressing a button, this means that the corresponding function cannot be performed either on the disc inserted, or in the selected mode. DISPLAY BUTTON: Insert a DVD+R or DVD+RW, during recording or if the source is set to Tuner, F-A/V, F-SV, R-A/V, R-SV or DV, press the DISPLAY button to view the control options. RECORDING (CONTINUED) Editing USING THE EDIT MENU Insert a prerecorded DVD+RW into the unit; the index screen will appear. Use the Navigation (Ã,¨,¹, ) buttons to scroll to the desired title to play and the EDIT button to select it; the following screen will appear. Use Navigation (Ã,¨) buttons to select the function icons in the TV screen. Title: The first number is the current title and the second number is the total titles.
RECORDING (CONTINUED) CHAPTER EDITING 1 2 1 1 2 2 1 1 Select the Chapter Editing option as shown on the previous page. Select NEW using the Navigation (¹, ) buttons 1, then press the ENTER button 2; a new chapter marker will then be added at the current point. Select the Chapter Editing option as shown on the previous page. Select DELETE using the Navigation (¹, ) buttons 1, then press the ENTER button 2; the current chapter’s marker will be deleted.
RECORDING (CONTINUED) DISC OPERATION (DISC OP) BUTTON With a Prerecorded DVD+R (Non-Finalize) or a DVD+RW in the disc compartment, press the DISC OP button on the remote control to view the Disc Operation options. Press the Navigation (Ã,¨) buttons to select the desired icon, then press the ENTER button to select it. Once selected, press the Navigation (¹, ) buttons or the Number buttons to change the option, then the ENTER button to confirm the change.
TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE Check the following before requesting service: SYMPTOM GENERAL No power. Power on, but unit not functioning properly. POSSIBLE CAUSE AC cord unplugged. Condensation has formed. Wrong type of CD inserted. Unit needs to be reset. No picture. The disc is dirty or inserted incorrectly. Some features and functions are not available on all discs. The equipment is not connected properly. No sound. The INPUT of the TV is not set to receive the DVD signal output.
TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE (CONTINUED) SYMPTOM DVD The unit does not start playback. POSSIBLE CAUSE Rating level set to block the DVD. DVD not inserted, or inserted upside-down. A non-playback disc is inserted. The disc is not placed in the guide. Some functions do not operate as stated. Selected language is not being shown in the subtitles, or spoken. Subtitles are not working properly. Angle cannot be changed. The Rating Level password has been forgotten. VCD (VIDEO CD) No menu playback.
CARE AND MAINTENANCE Caring for Discs • Treat the disc carefully. Handle the disc only by its edges. Never allow your fingers to come in contact with the shiny, unprinted side of the disc. • • • • Do not attach adhesive tape, stickers, etc. to the disc label. Clean the disc periodically with a soft, lint-free, dry cloth. Never use detergents or abrasive cleaners to clean the disc. If necessary, use a CD cleaning kit.
