• HolddowntheDECALC/HARDNESSbutton and
by briefly pressing the M button  set the desired
level of water hardness. The hardness level will be
shown in the display.
• Onceyouhavesetthedesiredlevelofhardnesslet
go of the DECALC/HARDNESS button . Your
settings are now saved.
Please note
•Waterhardnesscannotbeprogrammedwhilebrewing.
• Thelastwaterhardnesslevelchosenremainseven
after removing the power cable.
4. Setting the hotplate
(ONLY Melitta
®
AromaElegance
®
DeLuxe)
Keeping coee warm on the hotplate aects the taste
of your coee. To avoid this you should enjoy your
coee fresh, by drinking it as soon after brewing as
possible. Unnecessary warming also uses valuable
energy. The factory settings for the appliance are for
40 minutes of warming. After this the hotplate turns
o automatically. This time can be changed as needed:
• SimultaneouslyholddowntheSTARTbutton and
the TIMER button  and by briefly pressing the M
button  set the desired warming time (20, 40 or
60 minutes). The current warming time is shown in
the display.
• Onceyouhavesetthedesiredwarmingtimeletgo
of the button. Your setting is now saved.
• Thelastsettingchosenremainsevenafterremoving
the power cable.
5. Making coffee
For aromatic coee flavour and the best fit for your
filter bag in the filter holder, we recommend using
Melitta
®
filter bag 1x4
®
.
5.1 Brewing coffee
• Ensurethattheapplianceisconnectedtoapower
source.
• Removethedetachablewatertankbyholdingthe
recessed grip and pulling straight up. 
• Removethewatertanklidandllwiththedesired
amount of fresh water from the tap. Using the water
level indicator on the tank you can choose the
correct number of cups.
Smallcupsymbol=approx.85mlcoeepercup,
large cup symbol = approx. 125mlcoeepercup.
• Closethetankbyreplacingthelidandinsertthe
tank back in the appliance. Please ensure that you
replace the tank upright in the appliance. The guide
rails on the appliance (left of the tank) will help you
with this. 
• Swiveltheltertotherightandremoveitfrom
the holder . You can now conveniently rest the
filter on your kitchen worktop.

at the embossed seams
and place in the filter holder. Press the filter bag into
the filter holder by hand, to ensure the best fit. 
• Putthegroundcoeeintothelterbag.Theamount
depends on your personal taste. We recommend
using 6 g of ground coee per large cup.
• Putthelterbackintoitsholder.Forthishangrst
the eyelet of the filter on the top of the swivel arm
and afterwards press the round base into the clip. An
audible click tells you it is inserted properly. 
• Swivelthelterbackintotheapplianceandplacethe
glass pot with closed lid in the appliance. 
• Turntheapplianceon. The green LED lights up
and brewing begins.
• Tofullydeveloptheavourofyourcoeeevenwhen
preparing less than 6 cups, the Melitta
®
AromaElegance
®
models are fitted with the Aroma Control feature
as standard. So even when preparing small quantities
of coee you get the best aromatic coee experi-
ence.Whenmaking2-5cupspresstheSTARTbut-
ton  for longer than two seconds. The green LED
flashes and brewing begins.
• Aftermakingthecoeethehotplatekeepsitwarm
and turns o automatically after the time you have
set (see point 4). This avoids the unnecessary use of
electricity and saves energy. You can of course turn
the appliance o manually at any time.
• Thedripstoppreventsyourcoeefromdripping,
when you remove the pot from the appliance. 
• Withthehelpofthedetachablelteryoucan
dispose of the coee filter bag simply and easily. 
5.2. Timer feature

The appliance is fitted with a timer. This allows you to
set a time at which brewing will automatically begin.
•Preparetheapplianceasdescribedinpoint5.1. brewing
coee, but without pressing the START button.
• TosetthedesiredstarttimeholddowntheTIMER
button  and press the H and M buttons  repeatedly
to set the desired start time. This goes faster if you
hold down the H and M buttons. The first time you
programme it, the display will show 00:00.
• AfterlettinggooftheTIMERbutton,thecurrent
time will show after two seconds. The chosen start
time is saved until you set a dierent time or remove
the appliance from the power source.
• BybrieypressingtheTIMERbuttonagain,thetimer
