REMEDY WITH PHYTOPLEX
THE ST ORY OF PR OTECTANTS AND TREATMENTS
B
efore a product can be called “protectant” or “treatment”, it must be reviewed
by regulatory agencies such as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for
scientifically proven efficacy. In other words, it has to do what it’s claimed to do.
Active Ingredients Protect
Remedy with Phytoplex Z-Guard
TM
skin protectant uses purified white petrolatum in
a high concentration — 57 percent — to guard the skin from urine, feces and other
environmental irritants. Because of its high insolubility in water, petrolatum is not easily
washed away, maintaining its protective layer over skin.
Active Ingredients Treat
Remedy with Phytoplex Antifungal Clear ointment uses miconozole nitrate 2.0% to
treat superficial mycoses, or skin infections caused by fungal organisms. It works by
disrupting the organism’s membrane structure and function, thus inhibiting growth.
It may also act to diminish further fungal growth and proliferation by blocking the
“sparking” action of the compound ergosterol.
Phytoplex Ingredients Soothe and Nourish
In concert with the product’s active ingredients, the Phytoplex blend of botanicals
moisturize and nourish the skin with natural ingredients, including complex natural
phospholipid structures called oleosomes, which slowly rupture releasing natural oils
over time. Antioxidants and vitamins nourish the skin helping support normal skin
functioning.
Cosmetic Advances
Hydraguard
TM
does not list an FDA active ingredient, but is formulated with 24 percent
silicone to help skin resist moisture loss. This cosmetic designation lets CNAs apply
Hydraguard to residents or patients.
