Support Devices for the Back
Almost everyone will experience back pain at some point
in their lives. The pain can vary from mild to severe. It can
be acute or chronic. Most back pain is the result of trauma
or a disorder such as arthritis. Pain from trauma may be
caused by a sports or work-related injury.
However it happens, back pain can make everyday
activities difficult. Symptoms may range from a muscle
ache to shooting or stabbing pain, limited flexibility and
range of motion, or even an inability to stand straight.
Back braces can help. They support the abdomen, take
some of the load off the lower back, restrict motion and
improve posture. Back braces are recommended for con-
ditions such as lumbar muscle weakness, lumbar sprains
and strains, pulled muscles, degenerative disc disease and
herniated discs. Surgeons also recommend back braces
for support and stabilization following spinal surgery.
