In section III of the CDC guidelines for CAUTI prevention, a Category IB
recommendation for Proper Technique of Urinary Catheter Maintenance is as
follows: “If the CAUTI rate is not decreasing after implementing a comprehensive
strategy to reduce rates of CAUTI, consider using antimicrobial/antiseptic-
impregnated catheters.”

ERASE CAUTI Program provides a comprehensive strategy to support this high-
priority CDC recommendation.
