Ed
can be configured directly from its display and front panel commands. You may also enjoy the
same commands from a PC connected to Ed. Configuration tools are provided on the CD that came with D4
or by download
from www.mcdi.com
DOS, Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000 No tools available for configuration under Dos, Windows 95, 98, NE, NT or 2000.
For configuration, OS such as Windows XP, Vista or 7 should be used with .Net framework and administrator privileges. If using
other OS than Windows XP, Vista or 7, refer to section Configuration from front display. Alternatively, you can request
configuration commands from MCDI to build your own application.
USB port will not work under DOS and Windows 95 due to the nature of USB and OS limitations. Serial port must be used.
Linux
This OS is not supported for configuration. Configuration should be made from front display. Alternatively, you can
request configuration commands from MCDI to build your own application. Traffic can be viewed under linux using an
application made for this or terminal.
Macintosh This OS is not supported for configuration. Configuration should be made from front display. Alternatively, you
can request configuration commands from MCDI to build your own application
Traffic can be viewed under Linux using an application made for this or terminal. A terminal application such as Macwise or
Quickterm could be used to view traffic from Ed.
Developers tool Coding interface of Ed
commands is provided free of charge to developers who present projects and
credentials.
COMMUNICATION TOOLS
Software tool WINCOM (Windows 95SE, 98, ME, 2000, XP)
WINCOM is a legacy application made by MCDI circa
2000. It still works under Windows XP, Vista or 7. It is a
light type of terminal application allowing traffic viewing on
a com port with acknowledge sending capacity.
Use
WINCOM utility to test communication between computer
and Ed if you can not use Configurator's traffic viewer.
- Double click on WINCOM icon to start the application.
- Click on SETTINGS to choose COM port ( do not
change other parameters ) that your D4
is connected
to then click OK.
- Click on OPEN to start monitoring selected port. If Ed
is properly installed and configured you will see some
signals.
- Click on ENABLE ACK to acknowledge
- all incoming signals.

Due to the nature of USB port, no drivers are provided for DOS
