USB PORTS High retention
Ed is equipped with special USB connector for output. Connector is Samtec USBR high
retention force made to comply with the class 1, Div II minimum withdrawal requirement of 15 Newtons. It is normal to feel the
USB connector is either hard to insert or remove.
Ed USB port is not designed for frequent removal or insertion. By nature it should stay connected and rarely disconnected.
It is orange color-coded insulator to differentiate them from standard withdrawal force connectors (USB Series) that are available
with white or black plastic. It is compatible with standard USB connector.

Look for driver at first level of Exd-D4 folder provided on CD or downloaded from:

Name of the drivers:
Windows 2000: ExprecumDwin2000.inf
Windows XP and up: ExpreciumD.inf
Linux
included in Kernel 2.6.31 and up. See section on Linux driver in TOOLBOX section.
Firmware upgrade This procedure should only be performed under MCDI recommendation and guidance.
Firmware upgrade requires using the PC configuration tool (maintenance tab and to connect unit to a PC using the serial or USB
port without serial to USB converter. Contact MCDI support staff prior to performing a firmware upgrade.
Transmission to printer
Printer compatibility
Ed is compatible with most printer of the Epson TM-88 family using a serial port. Although not tested by
MCDI, printer models TM-U200 and T20 are compatible on specifications.
Connection through serial port is achieved by a serial connector located at Jumper J13 on component top side of Exprecium D.
Insure you have the correct Pin out :
Units manufactured in 2011 including: DB9 female
1 no connect
2 RX
3 TX
4 DTR
5 Ground
6 DSR
7 RTS
8 CTS
9 No connect
Units manufactured in 2012: DB9 male respecting ATmodem standard.
Printer checking option May be disabled/enabled with Configurator/front display option 'Check printer'. Messages about
printer presence and paired error messages may be disabled if Check printer option is disabled.
Status of Ed connection to PC is sent to printer upon connection/disconnection. Computer absent or Computer restore will print as
text
Line status (dead line detection) is sent to printer upon change as an event 0000 34 or 0000 56.
If selected, events will print upon arrival.
Configuration of receivers print-out (future)
This feature is added to Ed manufacture in 2012 and later. Most units could
be refitted. Reprogramming of the front display by Atmel AVRISP may be required. This reprogramming is available from most
MCDI power centers or from MCDI. Upgrade is also available to MCDI customers who have a AVRISP programmer.
