If upgrading rmware requires an upgrade from 04.xx.xx to 05.xx.xx in the process, there
are special considerations, as described in, "Upgrading rmware on a Director from 04.xx.xx
to 05.xx.xx" on page 11.
If upgrading rmware requires an upgrade from 06.xx.xx in the process, upgrade from 06.xx.xx
t o 07.01. 0 3. Fi r m w a r e 07.01. 0 3 i n c l u d e s a xtoanissuethatcanoccurwhenrmware is
upgradedfrom06.xx.xxto07.xx.xxunderveryspecic conditions. Other versions of 07.xx.xx
should not be used in the upgrade process.
If upgrading rmware requires an upgrade from 07.xx.xx in the process, upgrade from 07.xx.xx
to 08.02.00. Firmware 08.02.00 includes a x to a issue that can occur when rmware is
upgraded from 07.xx.xx to 08.xx.xx for the Edge Switch 2/24 and Edge Switch 2/12. Other
versions of 08.xx.xx should not be used in the upgrade process.
A small number of early-shipped Su restore Director FC-64 units m ay display one of the following
messages when upgrading to rmware 05.02.00-13:
•HAFMFirmware cannot be loaded due to insufficient CTP memory.
•HAFMBasicFile System Error: Insufficient memory for new firmware
version.
This o ccurs only in cer ta in units with CTP cards. Units with CTP2 cards do not have this issue.
If you receive one of these messages during the upgrade, the rmware upgrade has failed but the
unit continues to run with the existing rmware. The upgrade process checks for sufcient m emory
before activating the new rmware image. The rmware upgrade cannot complete without sufcient
memory. Contact HP Customer Support if you receive this message.
Some customer environments use application or host software that is affected by the restart
of the Director CTP during a HotCAT download operation. Applications that rely on inband
management servers are especially prone to problems caused by processor restart. For example,
an application may be congured to poll the Director or Edge Switch at regular intervals. The
polling process could occur during a restart period, causing the application software to react
adversely. As a solution, shut down those applications driving inband requests during a rmware
upgrade, and then restart the applications after upgrade completion.
Upgrading rmware on a Director from 04.xx.xx to 05 .xx.xx
An issue has be en identied in release 04.xx.xx if the contents of the non-volatile random access memory
(NVR
AM) on the active CTP are corrupted. Once the conguration has been loa ded, this corruption is
not d
etected u ntil an IPL/IML, power cycle, or rmware code load. If the NVR A M on the active CTP has
corrupted contents, the rmware load can cause the conguration to reset to factory defaults, which can
causeasystemoutage.Byusingthefollowingproceduretoupgradermware, conguration is preserved
and a system outage is avoided. This issue has been resolved with rmware 05.02.00-13 and later.
NOTE:
You must have maintenance authorization rights to access the HAFM Product/Element Manager menu
opt
ions used in this procedure.
To safely upgrade rmware on a Director:
1. Upgrade HAFM software on the HAFM Ser ver/Appliance to 07.01.00 (minimum).
2. Download rmware 05.02.00-13 by selecting Firmware Library from the Pr oduct Manager
Maintenance menu.
3. Back up the Director conguration by selecting Backup & Restore Conguration from the Product
Manager M aintenance menu.
NOTE:
Step 4 is not required if you are upgrading from 05.xx.xx or later .
