b. Place a protective cap over the cable connector.
7. Dependingon themanufacturer, the opticaltransceivermayhave
a locking mechanism to secure the transceiver in the port
receptacle, or the transceiver may have a pull tab to assist in
removal.
a. If required, disengage the locking mechanism (usually at the
left side of the transceiver) by squeezing the mechanism or
pushing it toward the port receptacle.
b. Grasp the pulltab or theopticaltransceiver frame and pull the
transceiver from the port receptacle (Figure 5-6).

Replacement To replace an SFP optical transceiver:
1. Remove the transceiver from its packaging.
2. Insert the transceiver into the port receptacle (Figure 5-6).
3. Perform an external loopback test for the port (Performing
Loopback Tests on page 4-21).If the test fails, go to Chapter 3,
MaintenanceAnalysisProcedures(MAPS)to isolate the problem.
