MAXWELL METAL SHADER
Maxwell Metal Parameters
Type
Measured presets for metal surfaces (Aluminium, Cobalt, Copper,
Gold, Silver) which also simulates the metal's color.
u and v Roughness
Disperses the scattered light energy randomly to achieve a more
rough surface for both (u,v) mapping directions.
Maps
Color Map
Not Available
Bump Map
Applies given bitmap as a height map for the bump effect. Since
the bump coefficient is positive, the bright pixels will be raised,
otherwise they will be collapsed. Use bumpmap coefficient to
multiply bumpiness.
Glossy Map
Applies given bitmap as a glossy map which controls the
blurriness of reflections. The brightest areas will be treated as
they are more blurry, otherwise they remain sharp.
Reflection Map
Applies given bitmap as a reflection map to the object and define
the reflection multiplier between 0 and 1. The brightest pixels will
be more reflective and the darkest pixels will be less reflective.

SHINY, DULL AND BRUSHED METAL SURFACES
You can easily set surface roughness to achieve dull/brushed metals or change
their reflectivity and glossiness with the respective controls.
For more complex surfaces like partly rusty metals, plastic shader is suggested
with color, specular, gloss and reflection maps.

MAXWELL METAL SHADER
BUILT-IN METAL PRESETS
Metal shader works with presets of measured metal surfaces. These are silver,
aluminium, cobalt, copper and gold.
INTERACTIVE CONTENT Click here and drag mouse to see different presets of metals.
CAUSTICS
Caustics are patterns of light created by specular
reflections and refractions. As seen in the example,
caustics are also affected by the color and geometry of
the object. Not only dielectrics but metals also produce
caustic patterns. They will need more samples (more
time) to clear up. You can enable or disable rendering
caustics under Environment Settings in render panel.
