SAFETY:
READ and UNDERSTAND the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) before using
this product. WARNING: Wear protective clothing and equipment. See HMIS
block. For emergency information, call CHEMTREC at 800-424-9300
or 703-527-3887 (outside USA). KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.
PREPARATION:
For slabs, patios, driveways, curbs, and steps:
The area must be properly prepared by removing any grass, debris, or
materials that would not allow for placing and leveling the forms. Forms
should be tapped securely in place and staked to assure that they remain
level and in place prior to and during the MAXIMIZER® Concrete Mix
application.
For posts:
The hole should be made deep (typically ½ of the above ground post height)
and wide (typically 3 times the diameter of the post) enough to assure the
proper support for its use and for enough Sakrete MAXIMIZER® to be placed
around it.
MIXING:
The Sakrete MAXIMIZER® Concrete Mix can be mixed in a mechanical
concrete mixer or by hand using a wheelbarrow.
1. Empty entire contents of bag into mortar box, wheelbarrow or mechanical
mixer. When mixing by hand, form a crater for adding water.
(NOTE: If only part of the bag is to be used, thoroughly mix the dry contents
and return the unused portion to the bag.)
2. Thoroughly blend dry materials. Then add clean water in small amounts
gradually, at a rate of up to approximately 2 1/3 gallons per 80lb. bag (a little
less water for a stiffer mix and a little more for a more workable mixture). Add
small amounts of water as mix gets closer to desired workability, thoroughly
mixing with each addition. Avoid a wet (or soupy) mix, which will lower
concrete strength and make proper fi nishing diffi cult. The fi nal mixture should
have a thick consistency. In cold weather, use warm water to accelerate set,
in warm or hot weather, use cool water or ice water to slow setting time.
PLACEMENT: Minimum 2” thick
For slabs, patios, driveways, curbs, and steps:
1. Place concrete into form and fi ll to the full depth. Continue until the form is
completely fi lled assuring the MAXIMIZER® reaches the top of form.
2. After the form is completely fi lled begin striking the concrete by using a
straight board. Place the board across the top of the concrete resting on the
forms and begin moving the board in a zig zag (saw motion) to smooth the
surface of the MAXIMIZER® Concrete. Continue until all of the concrete is
addressed and smooth.
3. Use a concrete or bull fl oat to fl oat the surface to help level any ridges and
fi ll any voids.
4. When the concrete is slightly fi rm to the touch, it may be “fi nished”. For a
textured surface, use a broom or brush. For a smooth surface, fi nish with a
steel trowel (CAUTION: Finishing before concrete fi rms can cause blistering).
5. After fi nishing, cover with wet cloth or plastic to wet cure. Protect from
extreme temperatures, wind and low humidity during curing. Longer curing
time is necessary at lower temperatures.
