Ping Utility 
This submenu allows you to determine the presence of another host on the network. The host can be accessible from 
either of the two net interfaces (eth0, or eth1). This is particularly useful for testing network connectivity and packet 
round trip times. Ping is really the implementation of the Echo and Echo Reply messages within the Internet Control 
Message Protocol (ICMP – RFC 792). In most if not all operating systems, ICMP is implemented directly in the IP 
Stack, and no special applications are required in order for a host to respond to ICMP messages. A Ping page similar 
to Figure 2- 75 will be displayed when the submenu item is selected.
