Using This Guide
Expected Background
This guide assumes that you already have background knowledge in the
subject of curve fitting data. If you do not yet have this background, then you
should read a standard curve fitting text, some of which are listed in “Selected
Bibliography” on page 3-75.
When learning to use the toolbox, you should start with Chapter 1, “Getting
Started with the Curve Fitting Toolbox,” which illustrates the major toolbox
features by fitting census data to several equations and then evaluating the
best fit. More detailed information about the features discussed in this chapter
is available elsewhere in the guide, and you should browse the documentation
according to your needs.
How This Guide Is Organized
The organization of this guide is described below.
Chapter Description
Getting Started with the
Curve Fitting Toolbox
Describes a particular example in detail to help
you get started with the toolbox.
Importing, Viewing, and
Preprocessing Data
Describes how to import, view, and smooth
data sets, and how to exclude one or more data
points in a data set from subsequent fits.
Fitting Data Describes how to fit data using library or
custom equations, a smoothing spline, or an
interpolant. Several detailed examples are
included as well.
Function Reference Describes all toolbox functions in detail.
