Bagging Specications
Type N Mortar Mix can be mixed by hand or machine.
Add approximately 1 gallon (3.7L) of clean water into
the mixing container for each 60 lb (27.2kg) bag.
Slowly pour the contents of the bags into the mixing
water. Mix until a rm, workable consistency is
achieved.
Pro-Tip: Type N Mortar Mix meets ASTM C 270 and
C 1714. This Type N pre-blended mix design is for
constructing above grade block walls and installing
bedding mortar for brick.
If more water is needed, add small amounts at a time
and continue to mix until the desired consistency is
achieved. Do not exceed a total volume of 5 Quarts
(4.7L) of water for each 60 lb (27.2kg) bag.
Pro-Tip: Color can be added by using concrete and
morter colorant. To achieve consistent color, use one pint
of colorant per each bag of mortar mix.
Pro-Tip: If building below grade block walls, use

Applicable Standards
ASTM International - ASTM C270 Standard
Specication for mortar unit masonry. ASTM C1714
Standard Specication for pre-blended dry mortar mix
for unit masonry.
Application
Apply a full bed of mortar onto the base, approximately
½" – ¾" (12.7 – 19.1 mm) thick.
Push downward into the mortar bed and sideways
against the previously laid block with a slight twisting
motion.
Tool the mortar joints when they become thumbprint
hard. This will make the mortar joint watertight and
provide a neat appearance.
