Automatic Transmission Gear Selector Operation
The transmission gear selector is located
on the right side of the vehicle. The
transmission selector lever has four
positions: high forward; reverse; neutral;
and low forward.
NOTE: To extend belt life, use low
forward gear in heavy pulling situations and in situations where you are
operating below 7mph(11km/h) for extended periods of time.
CAUTION
To change gears, stop the vehicle and with the engine idling, move the lever to
the desired gear. Shifting gears with the engine speed above idle or while the
vehicle is moving could cause transmission damage.
Always place the transmission in gear with the parking brake locked whenever
the vehicle is left unattended.
Maintaining shift linkage adjustment is important to assure proper transmission
function. Should you experience any shifting problem see your dealer.
WARNING
POTENTIAL HAZARD
Engaging a lower gear when the engine speed is too high.
WHAT CAN HAPPEN
The wheels could stop rotating. This could cause loss of control, an accident
and injury. It could also cause engine or drive train damage.
HOW TO AVOID THE HAZARD
Make certain the engine has sufficiently slowed before shifting to a lower gear.
