l. Treat every gun with the respect due a loaded gun. 2. Keep the safety ON SAFE until you are ready to shoot. 3. Be sure of your target before you pull the trigger. 4. Use only clean, dry, factory-loaded ammunition of the proper size and caliber. 5. Don't use modified or mutilated ammunition. 6. When carrying your Butr, never point it at anything you do not want to shoot. 7. Be sure to keep the barrel and mechanism clean and free of obstructions. 8. Before cleaning, be sure your rifle is completely empty.

n .lU How to Operate the Safety A. (Models 78O,781,782,783 only) The safety mechanism is a round button located on the rear right side of the re- ceiver directly behind the bolt handle. The words "safe" and "fire" are engraved ahead and to the rear of the safety button. To put your rifle ON SAFE, (gun must be cocked-red band on striker knob visible) push the safety button forward (photo A), as far as it will go. The safety is now ON SAFE (photo B).

The 101 may be put ON SAFE from the cocked position (photo E) by (1) firmly grasping and puiling the cocking knob to the rear (2) maintain- ing a firm grip on the cocking knob, and pulling the trigger; (3) letting the cccking knob go forward SLOWLY, removing your finger from the trigger at the same time, until it rests in the ON - ll J (photo SAFE position F). How to Load Your Bolt Action Rifle Magazine (Models 781 and 7gg only).
The inner tube will not lock in place if the n u m ber of ca rtridges loaded exceeds the stated magazine capacity. B. ip Magazine (Models 78O and 782) Remove the clip magazine of model 782 Cf by pressing release button shown in photo l. Release button on 780 is located at the rear and bottom of the clip itself. Insert up to seven cartridges (photo J). Replace loaded clip being sure it locks in place. c. Single Shot (Model 101 only) This model holds only one cartridge.
The Model 101 is cocked and ready to fire when the cocking knob is pulled rearward. f To Fire I A. Models 78o,78t,782 and 783 Move the safety to the OFF SAFE or fire position and with the gun pointed at the target squeeze the trigger. lf you have not fired all cartridges at the target, be sure to put the safety ON SAFE u ntil you a re ready to shoot again. B. Model 101 only Grasp the cocking knob and with your finger off the trigger, pull it rearward until it locks.

Pack your rifle carefully, with plenty of cushioning material, and a sturdy outer cardboard box. Do not ship in a gun case or special container that you wish returned. 3.
