MASTER-SLAVE CONTROL
MASTER-SLA VE contr ol ref ers to tw o identical units
connected tog ether f or joint contr ol. The fir st player
(Master) receives remote contr ol signals f or both units
and contr ols the disc selection, audio and video output,
and inf ormation displa ys of the second pla yer (Sla ve).
MPEG
Shor t for Mo ving Picture Exper ts Group. This is an
international standar d for compression of mo ving
images. On some DVDs, digital audio has been
compressed and recor ded in this f ormat.
Multi-angle
In a TV or movie studio, a single image is usually filmed
by more than one camera at the same time , and one of
those ima ges is selected b y the pr ogram director and
transmitted to y our TV. Some DVD discs are recor ded
with the angles of more than one camera used f or
filming, and these can be selected using this pla yer.
These types of discs are called m ulti-angle discs.
Multi-Language Subtitle
Subtitles are langua ge titles superimposed on mo vies,
or other media. Up to 32 diff erent subtitle langua ges can
be recor ded on a DVD disc. The subtitle function can be
used to select the language of your choice.
Multiple Language
The Multiple Langua ge feature ref ers to the actual audio
language that you hear while enjoying DVD playback.
Up to 8 diff erent langua ge tracks can be recor ded on a
DVD. The Multiple Language function can be used to
select the audio language of your choice.
Parental lock level
This function was sug gested by parents concerned
about what type of media their c hildren were ab le to
watch. Parental loc k restrictions are restrictions
incorporated into titles which include scenes that
parents ma y not wish their c hildren to vie w.
PBC (Playback Control)
This ref ers to signals recor ded on a Video CD (V ersion
2.0) enabling pla yback contr ol. You can use men us
recor ded on discs with PBC f or easy, interactive sear ch
for desired scenes, and playback. You can also enjo y
viewing high-resolution/standar d resolution still ima ges.
PCM
PCM stands for Pulse Code Modulation and is digital
audio. The digital audio of CDs is PCM. This player also
has a function that con verts Dolb y Digital and MPEG
digital bitstreams into PCM to enab le you to listen to
quality digital sound e ven without a special decoder .
Regional restriction codes (region number)
Regional restriction codes are b uilt in to D VD players
and DVD discs f or each sales region. If the regional
code of the DVD player does not match one of the
regional codes of the D VD disc, playback is not
possible.
The region n umber can be f ound on the rear panel of
the DVD player. The illustration belo w sho ws the regions
and corresponding region n umber s.
Sampling Frequency
When a sound wa ve is con ver ted to a digital signal, the
sound is sampled and con verted to data at a specific
frequenc y rate . For e xample , a signal with a 96 kHz
sampling rate indicates that in one second, the analog
signal was sampled 96000 times to pr oduce the digital
signal.
S-video
Connecting the S-video output on the player to a TV or
monitor with S-video input via an S-video cable
produces c learer picture repr oduction b y sending
separate signals f or the luminance and the color . These
signals are then combined b y the tele vision to pr oduce
a better quality picture .
System control
By connecting this DVD player to another Marantz audio
component using a D-B US contr ol cor d, you can
operate the components remotel y as a single system.
TruSurround
TruSurr ound is a sim ulated surr ound system whic h
produces a surr ound sound eff ect fr om stereo speaker s.
Virtual Dolby Digital
Vir tual Dolb y Digital uses Dolb y Digital m ultic hannel
audio sour ces to create a realistic surr ound sound eff ect
from stereo speaker s.
