(R09) Rec Level
Before recording an analog source, perform the following
steps to obtain the appropriate recording level.

Recording level must be adjusted manually using the Jog
wheel on the front panel.
1. To have the PMD580 set the recording level
manually, set the Rec Level setting to Manual.
2. Set the PMD580 in record or record pause mode.
3. Watch the audio level meter(s) and monitor the
sound source you want to record.
4. Use the Jog wheel to adjust the audio level meter(s)
so that the 0 dB indicator(s) just barely flicker at the
highest peak from the input signal.
The OVER indicator should not light (this would result
in clipping).
ALC (Automatic Level Control):
Automated recording level adjustment based on the level of
the input signal.
1. To have the PMD580 set the recording level
automatically, set the Rec Level setting to ALC.
2. Set the unit in record or record pause mode.
Jog wheel does not effect the recording.
“ALC On” appears in the display when the Jog wheel
is turned.
Time constant is long to prevent sudden fluctuations
in the recording level.
(P01) Digi Out Form
The digital output format is selectable from Broadcast or
Consumer using Digi Out Form.

1. From stop, press the MENU/STORE/UTILITY button.
2. Turn the Jog wheel so Digi Out Form is displayed.
3. While Digi Out Form is flashing, press the Jog
wheel. The Broadcast or Consumer will be flashing.
4. Turn the Jog wheel to toggle between Broadcast
and Consumer.
5. When correct, press the Jog wheel.
The display returns to Digi Out Form.
6. If you are done making Menu changes to the Preset,
press the MENU/STORE/UTILITY button to save
your changes.
Display returns to stop mode.
