DESCRIPTION
MAPEI SM Primer is a ready-to-use, fast-drying, water-based, latex primer for use under
MAPEI’s peel-and-stick sheet membranes on residential and commercial indoor or outdoor
floors. MAPEI SM Primer greatly increases the bond of MAPEI’s peel-and-stick sheet
membranes to concrete, plywood and other approved, properly prepared floors. It can be
applied with a roller or brush, is white in color and dries clear.

WHERE TO USE
MAPEI SM Primer is required when installing MAPEI’s peel-and-stick sheet membranes.
For specic uses, see individual Technical Data Sheets (TDSs) for MAPEI peel-and-stick
sheet membranes.
LIMITATIONS
Do not apply to substrates containing asbestos.
Do not dilute with any other liquid.
For specic limitations, see individual TDSs for MAPEI peel-and-stick sheet membranes.
Not for use: over substrates subject to hydrostatic pressure or moisture content in excess
of 3 lbs. per 1,000 sq. ft. (1,36 kg per 92,9 m
2
) per 24 hours using a calcium chloride
test kit; over cracks subject to “out-of-plane” vertical movement; where oor movement
is greater than 3/8" (10 mm); over expansion or control joints; or in areas of prolonged
water immersion (such as swimming pools, spas, steam rooms, gang showers, hot tubs
and fountains).
SUITABLE SUBSTRATES
Fully cured concrete (at least 28 days old)
Cement mortar beds and indoor leveling coats
Cement backer units (CBUs) – see manufacturer’s installation guidelines
Properly prepared cement terrazzo oors, and well-bonded ceramic tile and natural stone;
and vinyl composition tile (VCT)
Exterior-grade plywood for interior residential oors and countertops in dry areas only.
Plywood must be Group 1, CC-type, conforming to APA classication and U.S. Product
Standard PS 1-95 or COFI exterior plywood “Select” or “Select Tight Face” conforming
to CSA-0121 standard for Douglas r. (See TCA Handbook for additional information and
the statement regarding deection criteria.)
