SUITABLE SUBSTRATES

• Concrete (cured for at least 28 days)

• Masonry cement block, brick, cement mortar beds, render

coats and leveling coats

• Cement backer units (CBUs) – see manufacturer’s installation

guidelines

• Gypsum wallboard and plaster – interior walls in dry areas

only. Priming may be required.

• APA Group 1 and CANPLY 0121 exterior-grade plywood

(interior, residential and light commercial floor and

countertops in dry conditions only)

• MAPEI waterproofing, crack-isolation, sound-reduction and

uncoupling membranes

LIMITATIONS

• Do not use for moisture-sensitive stone (green marble, some

limestone and some granite), agglomerate tiles or

resin-backed tiles. Instead, use suitable epoxy or urethane

adhesives (see the respective Technical Data Sheets for

details).

• Do not use over wood planking, presswood, particleboard,

chipboard, oriented strand board (OSB), treated plywood,

Masonite, Lauan, laminate, fiberglass, poured epoxy floors,

self-stick tile, noncushioned sheet vinyl, metal or similar

dimensionally unstable substrates.

• To use directly over gypsum-based patching or leveling

substrates, apply a suitable primer/sealer before use. See

MAPEI’s technical bulletin “Gypsum-Based Floors and Walls:

Which MAPEI Products Can Be Applied?” in the Related

Documents section of the Tile & Stone Installation Systems

page on MAPEI’s Website.

• Installations of tile over nonporous surfaces, such as

waterproofing membranes and existing tile, may require

extended setting/curing times.

• Do not use Large-Format Floor & Wall Tile Mortar for

installations subject to water immersion.

• This mortar is not recommended for areas subject to severe

freeze/thaw conditions. For the best performance, use a

MAPEI mortar with a liquid latex additive.

PRODUCT APPLICATION

• Choose a notched trowel (see the “Approximate Coverage”

chart) with sufficient depth to achieve more than 80% mortar

contact to both the tile and substrate for all interior

applications, and more than 95% for exterior installations,

commercial floor and wet applications. It may be necessary to

back-butter the tile in order to meet these requirements. (Refer

to ANSI A108.5 specifications and TCNA Handbook

guidelines.)

• Spread only as much mortar as can be tiled before the product

skins over.

• Large-Format Floor & Wall Tile Mortar has about 2 hours of

working time after mixing.

• Provide for expansion and control joints per TCNA Method

EJ171. Do not cover any expansion joints with mortar.

• Protect from light traffic for at least 24 to 48 hours and from

heavy traffic for 7 days.

• Protect the installation from rain for 72 hours and from

freezing for 21 days.

SUSTRATOS APROPIADOS

• Membranas MAPEI de impermeabilización, aislamiento de

grietas, reducción de sonido y desacople

LIMITACIONES

• No lo utilice para piedras sensibles a la humedad (mármol

verde, algunos tipos de piedra caliza y unos granitos), losetas

aglomeradas o losetas con respaldo de resina. En su lugar,

utilice un epoxi adecuado o adhesivos de uretano (para mayor

información, consulte la respectiva Ficha técnica).

• No lo utilice sobre tablones de madera, madera prensada,

tableros de partículas, aglomerado, tableros de partículas

orientadas (OSB, por sus siglas en inglés), madera

contrachapada tratada, Masonite, Lauán, laminados, fibra de

vidrio, pisos epoxi vertidos, losetas autoadhesivas, láminas

de vinilo no acolchadas, metal u otros sustratos similares que

sean dimensionalmente inestables.

• Para utilizarlo directamente sobre parches a base de yeso o

sustratos de nivelación, aplique un sellador o imprimador

adecuado antes de usarlo. Consulte el boletín técnico de

“Pisos y muros a base de yeso: ¿Qué productos MAPEI se

pueden aplicar?” en la sección de Documentos Relacionados

de la página de sistemas de instalación de losetas y piedras

en el sitio web de MAPEI.

• Las instalaciones de losetas sobre superficies no porosas,

tales como membranas impermeabilizantes y losetas ya

existentes, pueden requerir mayores tiempos de fraguado y

curado.

• No use Large-Format Floor & Wall Tile Mortar para

instalaciones sujetas a inmersión en agua.

• Este mortero no se recomienda para áreas sujetas a fuertes

ciclos de hielo/deshielo. Para el mejor desempeño, utilice un

mortero MAPEI con aditivo de látex líquido.

APLICACION DEL PRODUCTO

• Elija una llana dentada (consulte la tabla “Cobertura

aproximada”) que tenga la profundidad suficiente para lograr

más del 80% de contacto del mortero con la loseta y el

sustrato para todas las aplicaciones interiores, y de más del

95% para instalaciones exteriores, pisos comerciales y

aplicaciones húmedas. Quizás sea necesario aplicar más

cantidad de material en el dorso de la loseta en dirección

opuesta a la primera aplicación para poder cumplir con estos

requisitos. (Consulte las especificaciones ANSI A108.5 y las

directrices del Manual TCNA).

• Esparza sólo la cantidad de mortero que pueda cubrir con

losetas antes de que el producto comience a formar una

película sobre la superficie.

• Large-Format Floor & Wall Tile Mortar cuenta con

aproximadamente 2 horas de tiempo de instalación después

de mezclado.

• Utilice juntas de dilatación y control según lo especificado en

el Método EJ171 del TCNA. No cubra las juntas de dilatación

con mortero.

• Evite el tráfico liviano durante al menos 24 a 48 horas, y el

tráfico pesado durante 7 días.

• Proteja la instalación contra la lluvia durante 72 horas, y

contra el congelamiento durante 21 días.
