INSTALLATION AND GENERAL SAFETY INFORMATION
General Information
ThisseriesisdesignedcertiedinaccordancewithAmericanNa-
tionalStandard/CSAStandardZ21.88asaGasFireplaceHeater
tobeinstalledaccordingtotheseinstructions.
Any alteration of the original design, installed other than as
shown in these instructions will be the responsibility of the
person and company making the changes, and will void the
warranty. This product may not be used with any type of gas
other than what is shown on the rating plate.
Important
All Correspondence should refer to complete Model Number,
SerialNumberandtypeofgas.
Installation
Installation,replacement,gaspiping,gasutilizationequipmentor
accessories, and the repair and service of this equipment must
beperformedbyaqualiedagency.Theterm“qualiedagency”
meansanyindividual,rm,corporationorcompanywhicheitherin
personorthrougharepresentativeisengagedinandisrespon-
siblefor(a)theinstallationorreplacementofgaspipingor(b)the
connection,installation,repairorservicingof equipment, who is
experienced in such work, familiar with all precautions required
andhascompliedwithalltherequirementsoftheauthorityhaving
jurisdiction.
• This installation must conform with local codes, or in the
absence of local codes, the National Fuel Gas Code,
NFPA54/ANSIZ223.1.
• Thisreplace,wheninstalled,mustbeelectricallygrounded
in accordance with local codes or. In the absence of local
codes,withtheNationalElectricalCode,ANSI/NFPA70.
• Provideadequateclearancesaroundthereplaceforservic-
ingandensuretherearenoobstructionstothecombustionair
intakesituatedatthebackofthereplace.RefertoPages24
to 27.
• TheMantisPower-VentHigh-EfciencyFireplacemustbein-
stalled on a at, solid continuous surface (i.e. wood,metal,
concrete).Roughorunevensurfacescancausevibrationor
humminginthereplace.
• This replace must be installed in such a way that the
replace can be removed for servicing the heat exchang-
er and the ue that are located in the rear section of the
replace.
• This replace is equipped with a three-prong [grounding]
plug for your protection against shock hazard and should
be plugged directly into a properly grounded three-prong
receptacle. Do not cut or remove the grounding prong
from this plug. Foranungroundedreceptacle,purchasean
adapterwithtwoprongsandawireforgrounding.
Note: Undernocircumstancesshouldthereplacebeinstalled
underconditionsthatwouldnotallowforeasyremovalof
thereplacetocarryoutroutineinspectionandserviceto
thereplace.
Note: Whereamantelsurroundisbeingusedoninsertinstalla-
tionsandzeroclearancereplaceinstallations,thecom-
bustionairintakeslotlocatedinthetopmantelsurround
mustnotbeobstructed.Thiswillallowcombustionairto
enterthroughtheslottothecombustionairinletlocated
atthebackofthereplace.
Note: During initial ring of this unit, residual oil from the
heat exchanger may bake off and smoke may occur.
Provideadequateventilationtotheareawherethere-
placeisinstalledtopreventtriggeringofsmokealarms.

Installation on Combustible Flooring
Ifthisreplaceistobeinstalleddirectlyoncarpeting,tile,orother
combustiblematerial,otherthanwoodooring,thereplaceshall
beinstalledonametalorwoodpanelextendingthefullwidthand
depthofthereplace.
Thebasereferredtoabovedoesnotmeanthere-proofbaseas
usedonwoodstoves.Theprotectionisprimarilyforrugsthatmay
beextremelythickandlight-colortilethatcandiscolor.
Installation in Residential Garages
Gasutilizationequipmentinresidentialgaragesshallbeinstalled
sothatallburnersandburnerignitiondevicesarelocatednotless
than18inches(457mm)abovetheoor.Theequipmentshallbe
located,or protected,soit isnot subjecttophysical damageby
vehicles.
Operation of Fireplace During Construction
Thereplaceshallnotbeusedduringconstruction.
WARNING
Do not operate replace with the glass front removed,
or if it is cracked or broken. Replacement of the glass
shall be performed by a licensed or qualied service
person
