Step 1 – From end of moulding, measure off 8” and cut dental in dado section. Set aside for step 4.

Step 2 – Position long section of moulding on the shelf, center on shelf to equal lengths from the end of the
shelf to the first dado on the moulding (shown below). From the back side, mark cut marks on moulding where
the shelf ends.

Step 3 – Cut moulding with 45 degree cut on marks from the shelf. Be sure to cut away from the marks (one left
and one right miter). NOTE: if mark is not perpendicular, cut at the widest point.

Step 4 - Using 8” piece of moulding from step 1, measure off (reference 1) dimension from above and cut using
45 degree miter as shown below.

Step 5 – Position miter cut on the back side of the moulding as it meets the miter on the shelf. Mark moulding at
the back edge of the shelf for the side length.

Step 6 – Cut marked moulding (side length).

Step 7 – Using the remaining piece of moulding, repeat steps 4, 5 and 6 for the opposite end of the shelf.
Step 8 – Check moulding lengths against shelf, trim if necessary.
Step 9 – Carefully pre-drill and nail dentil moulding to shelf using 1” brad nails. Fill miter joints and nail holes
with wood putty (for oak moulding) or caulk (for primed moulding).
