This night light uses the light sensor and the LED strip. The programme is started
with the connection B-E. All LEDs remain switched off as long as it is light. But
as soon as it gets dark, the LEDs start to flash at random. The light will switch
off again after five minutes so that the batteries aren’t discharged too
much. But if you switch the light briefly on and off again, the
effect starts again. Some street lights are controlled in the
same way. A light sensor detects when it gets dark and
the light is switched on.

Did you know that the remote control of a TV emits
invisible light? It is called infrared light because its
colour (its wavelength) is beyond red, in an area
no human can see anymore. But your silicon light
sensor can. The result is shown with the tricolour
LED, which is always connected to MO7, MO8
and MO9, and the corresponding programme is
selected with the connection C-D.
For the project to work properly, it needs to be very
dark. Point a remote control towards the sensor and
press any button. The light switches on and off after
a short time. If you press the same or a different
button again, a new colour will switch on. You can
change the colours in this way.
